1855 Flying Eagle Cent Pattern Judd-168 Original PCGS PR63 Brown. These cents with the Flying Eagle design are intermediate in size between the old large cents or “old coppers” which ended in 1857 and the small-size Flying Eagle cents that debuted in 1856 as (rather high-mintage) patterns and in the following year as regular-issue small cents. This piece is quite popular among collectors of both large cents and Flying Eagle and Indian cents. This is a gorgeous example for the grade with a sharp proof strike and attractive surfaces with glints of heather among the prevailing sandy-tan color. PCGS Population: 35 in 63 Brown, 47 finer (10/2017).
