1862 Gold Dollar, Popular Civil War-Era Issue, MS63 PCGS CAC

$1,050.00

1862 Gold Dollar, Popular Civil War-Era Issue, MS63 PCGS CAC. The 1862 gold dollars were struck in large quantities but were not paid out at face value, as the predations and first horrors of the Civil War precluded the circulation first of gold and silver, and soon after even Indian cents by the autumn of 1861. These were paid out at a nominal premium, likely in early 1862. Most examples of this date are well-struck and lustrous, as is this piece. Honey-gold surfaces show flecks of hazel with a few scattered marks consistent with the grade. The strike is bold throughout. The reverse is rotated about 30 degrees counterclockwise with respect to the obverse, common on these coins. Certified in a PCGS Gen 4.0 (1998–2002) holder.
