1878 Toned Quarter Eagle, AU55 PCGS CAC. Beautiful toning on gold coins such as this is a result of oxidation of the copper alloy that constitutes 10% of these coins. This piece is not only cool in its own right and CAC-approved, it also shows the reverse noticeably rotated with respect to the obverse; we’d say 20 degrees or so, although the coin is in the SDB so we’re working from memory here …
