1880-S Large S Morgan Dollar, Beautiful Rim-Toned MS66 PCGS CAC. Large S mintmark (there were two sizes of mintmark used for this issue). The Morgan dollars of 1878-S through 1882-S were the absolute epitome of the coiner’s art as far as the series was concerned; clearly, some Mint workers of the era in San Francisco were not only conscientious but also skilled at their craft. This Premium Gem boasts much prooflike luster throughout both sides, although the obverse devices show insufficient frost for a Prooflike designation. Nonetheless a gorgeous, mirrorlike coin with one small dark toning area just in front of Liberty’s ear, a bold strike and loads of eye appeal.
