1894/1894 Doubled Date Indian Head Cent, AU58 PCGS CAC Stunning Variety! FS-301, Snow-1. It always amazes me each time I see this stunningly “wrong” Indian Head cent variety, much the same reaction I get when looking at a 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln cent (which is, admittedly, even more extreme). The repunched 4 in the date is so misplaced—widely separated both north and east—that it is a wonder the Mint personnel let these pieces go through … But the 8 and 9 digits are also “massively repunched” east as well, according to the Fivaz-Stanton Cherrypickers’ Guide, which also lists this as one of the top five varieties in the entire Indian Head cent series. This near-Mint State coin is one of 10 submissions so graded at PCGS, with 27 finer. In AU58BN, CAC has stickered only five coins and CACG has graded one more, giving a price of $1,700 (10/2024).
