1907 Abraham Lincoln Heavy Bronze Plaque Designed by Victor D. Brenner. Bronze plaque, 7.125 inches wide by 9.625 inches high (18 cm by 24.4 cm), weight 3 pounds 2 ounces. This is the famous right-facing bust of President Abraham Lincoln designed in 1907 by Victor David Brenner, future designer of the Lincoln cent. Along the bottom is inscribed ABRAHAM LINCOLN 1809 1865 in two lines with stars, and along the right front edge a small cipher and 1907 COPYRIGHT 1907 BY VICTOR D BRENNER. The plaque is thicker at bottom than the top, with S KLABER FOUNDERS NY on the lower-left edge. The back has the original stand and a metal loop for either desk- or wall-hanging.
This is clearly among the design inspirations that led President Theodore Roosevelt to request Brenner to design the Lincoln cent, although Brenner designed numerous tributes to the martyred president. The plaque is in overall excellent shape, although some light evidence of cleaning and some residue appears in the right field and lower-right area. One look at this lovely, inspiring plaque will immediately remind any numismatist or collector of the Lincoln cent, likely the most reproduced numismatic art in history. These plaques are often seen trading (with or without marble backing) in the $3000-$4000 range. Due to a fortunate purchase, we offer this one delivered for $2000.
