1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, Gorgeously Toned MS65BN PCGS CAC, Ex: ‘Abe’s Coloring Book’ Former #1 Registry Set. We bought this coin several years ago from the (sadly now deceased) owner of the now-retired, former #1 Toned Lincoln Wheat Cents Registry Set (aka “Abe’s Coloring Book,” a fine gentleman with a keen eye and passion (which we share!) for beautifully toned Lincolns. We sent it to CAC later, and it unsurprisingly got the CAC bean. We are only offering it now because we have upgraded that key-date spot in our set to an amazing MS66BN PCGS CAC coin.

This beautiful Gem Brown coin offers subtle shades of blue and gold amid copious luster with absolutely no spots or mentionable drawbacks, as well as a super strike. Add in the illustrious pedigree, and we think this will be a keeper for some lucky buyer for many years to come.

The 1909-S VDB cents in high grades have been on a tear lately, but as we look around at the “competition,” we see numerous coins in the same grade, with or without CAC, priced quite a bit higher, and that includes some that we wouldn’t want at any price. I wouldn’t wait too long on this coin if you’re considering it. CAC has certified 54 examples in MS65BN and nine finer (eight 66BN, one 67BN), but many of those coins are held tightly in long-term collections (6/2022).
