Description

1916-D Cent, Sharp MS65BN PCGS CAC Lots of Red! The U.S. Mint redesigned the master hubs (the metal templates [positive] used to produce dies [negative] which strike the coins [positive]) for the Lincoln cents in 1916, and as a result the cents of this year (and 1917) can be marvelously well- to fully struck, depending on the state of the individual dies used for each coin. This piece boasts an essentially full strike on the obverse, with incredible detail throughout Lincoln’s hair, coat, beard, and face. The reverse shows a bit of die fatigue in the fields but still full wheat ears. Much red remains in the protected areas on both sides despite the deserved Brown designation. A marvelous example of this date, with the CAC approval as well. PCGS Population: 40 in 65BN, 3 finer. CAC Population: 15 in 65BN, one MS66BN finer (9/2019).
