1924-D Cent, Great-Looking Red-Tinged Semikey, MS64 Brown PCGS. We don’t like cents with carbon spots (which are black), although some cents can have toning spots (which can be brown or any other color, just about), but we try to be accurate when a coin has them. This coin has some small spots mostly on the obverse which you will never see without a strong loupe and turning the coin “just so,” but it has a great look overall. A Gem Brown example that we just bought (and already sold) cost us more than three times as much as this coin. Generous amounts of mint red peek out from around the date and other devices. For better or worse, the spots are largely confined to the obverse. (And note, they didn’t bother JA at CAC.) PCGS Population: 74 in 64 Brown, 18 finer. CAC Population: 10 in 65 Brown, 5 finer (6/2018).
