1926-S Key Lincoln Cent, MS64BN PCGS CAC, Sharp Date and Mintmark! Many examples of the 1926-S Lincoln cent were struck from mushy dies showing incomplete mintmarks and/or the 6 in the date (at a minimum), but this piece is a refreshing exception. The surfaces show soft, even medium-brown luster on both sides with few distractions of any sort. A high-end piece, which CAC concurs with. CAC Population: 26 in 64BN, 2 finer (both 65BN) (9/2019).
Mint State examples of this low-mintage issue (4.5 million coins) are elusive regardless of numeric grade, but in Gem Red (MS65RD) this is the single rarest Lincoln cent regular issue. PCGS currently shows two pieces graded in MS65RD. The most recent auction occurrence was in January 2019, where an example brought $90,000. That coin is now in the (already) legendary D.L. Hansen Collection.
