1954-S Lincoln Cent Toner, MS67+RB PCGS, Pop 2/0, Late Die State, Ex: Terry’s Toners. One of a kind. This is the kind of Lincoln cent we just love. Absolutely top-pop, gorgeous, fiery deep reddish-orange and gold colors on both sides, and if that weren’t enough, it’s struck with the obverse die in a very late die state, showing the 9 in the date filled in and die cracks connecting the S mintmark with the 5 and another die crack connecting the flag of that 5 with the curve in the middle. What’s not to love?
This is not exactly an “error” coin: Several of the high-mintage Wheat cent dates from the late 1950s—particularly the 1957-D—show similar die filling in the 9. But the gorgeous color, top grade, and very late die state make this coin incredibly appealing, interesting, and absolutely one of a kind.
