1972 Doubled Die Obverse (DDO) Cent, Top-Pop MS66BN PCGS, ‘Pastel Prize’. FS-101, the boldest of several DDO varieties for the year. The 1972 FS-101 Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln cent variety was the most startling DDO variety struck in Philadelphia since the legendary 1955 DDO, and even today it remains a variety easily seen with the naked eye and prized in its acquisition. The FS-101 die marriage, in additon to the boldly doubled date and a strong doubled spread throughout LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, also shows a small die gouge (incused into the die, raised on the coin) above the D in UNITED, near the reverse rim.

This example boasts splendid, highly lustrous surfaces with a beautiful palette of teal, gold, rose, and saffron shades with considerable prooflike reflectivity. PCGS Population: 7 in 66BN, 0 finer (6/2021).
