1984-P Olympic Silver Dollar, MS68 PCGS Gorgeous Toning! The Modern Commemorative era was ushered in, famously, by the modest 1982 George Washington 250th anniversary half dollars. Soon after, however, the U.S. went all out with the 1983–84 Los Angeles Olympiad coins in silver (two different silver dollar issues) and gold (1984 $10). This second silver dollar issue was by the controversial sculptor Robert Graham, who put headless (and explicit) giant human male and female figures at the entrance to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. That entrance is reproduced on this coin, which also features, on the reverse, what is in our opinion one of the best-executed American eagle designs in all U.S. coinage art. We paid right nicely for this gorgeous coin, but thought it was well worth it.
