Austria ‘1780’ Restrike Maria Theresa Thaler MS66 PCGS Most Stunning Toner in Our Collection! After the death of Empress Maria Theresa in 1780, the thaler bearing her image continued to be restruck in Vienna and other European mints, and it was extremely important for trade with the Levant (parts of Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey). It likely continues to circulate today in some Arab bazaars.
This particular coin is one that we sold years ago to another dealer. Given the stunning two-sided toning, the large size of this silver coin, and the flashy luster which does not show up well in the Trueview, we always regretted selling this splendid piece. We rejoiced when it became available for purchase again from our dealer friend and world currency expert Bryan Norris, and we are grateful to him for allowing us to repurchase it recently at a show in Chattanooga. Not for sale.
