Great Britain (1790s) Penny Conder Token, Middlesex, Kempson’s, Mansion House-Promissory Penny, DH-43, MS63BN PCGS. Obv. Corner view of mansion, MANSION. HOUSE. ERECTED. MDCCLI. Rev. A shield surrounded by leafy branches, around LONDON PROMISSORY PENNY TOKEN. E: Plain. This large penny-sized Conder token is about the size of a modern U.S. half dollar, an imposing piece. A nicely handsome design on both sides, and this coin offers appealing deep patina, with a couple of carbon spots that keep it from a higher grade. Still quite attractive: Notice the inviting light shining outward from the opening of the mansion, and the extensive detailing of the windows, staircases, columns, and brickwork. Considerable prooflike reflectivity emanates from the fields on both sides. A die crack on the reverse runs diagonally from the second S downward and right to a frond tip. PCGS Population: 1 in 63BN, 5 finer (7/2021).
