Great Britain 1794 Halfpenny Conder Token, Somersetshire, Bridgewater, Post Office-Bridge, DH-86, MS65BN NGC. Misattributed by NGC as Bath, but the Dalton and Hamer DH-86 number is correct. (You’d think the Bridge and Water and reverse inscription would have been a tipoff.) Obv. Front view of a house, I. HOLLOWAY & SONS DRAPERS &C. POST OFFICE, 1794 in exergue. Rev. Part of a castle and aforementioned bridge and water, B. WATER HALFPENNY. FOR CHANGE NOT FRAUD. Edge: ON DEMAND WE PROMISE TO PAY. This is a copper striking with lively nut-brown and wine-purple luster and lots of eye appeal. Struck slightly off-center so that the extreme letter tops on part of both rims are off the flan. A tiny verdigris spot appears at F in HALFPENNY. A much nicer piece than the rather dull, flat brown surfaces our lousy photos display. Seldom seen so fine. NGC Census: 3 in 65BN, 1 finer (7/21).
