Great Britain 1797 Halfpenny Conder Token, Warwickshire, Kempson’s, Mill Lane Gate-Coventry Arms DH-274, MS66BN NGC, Pop 1/0. Obv. Building and archway, MILL LANE GATE. Rev. Kempson’s Die No. 2, period after P. and Coventry Arms (a tusky elephant, a castle, a wildcat; cat statant guardant proper when you’re visiting the Queen), date 1797 divided by shield. Edge: COVENTRY TOKEN. Glossy deep-brown surfaces show much field reflectivity with some nice iridescent colors popping out, and needle-sharp detail throughout. A gorgeous Premium Gem Brown example of this popular Kempson-Coventry design, and another in this wonderful series seldom seen in such fine condition. It would not take much convincing at all for us to believe this was struck as a proof. The sole finest at NGC (7/21).
