1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, Beautifully Toned MS64BN PCGS, Ex: Winged Liberty Set. We are currently blessed with an abundance of 1909-S VDB cents but hey, that’s not a bad thing! This one from the famed (and recently retired) Winged Liberty Toned Lincolns Registry Set features generous swaths of mellow orange, rose, ocean-blue, and plum patina. This coin is sharply struck with no mentionable contact. Two or three small black flecks on the reverse are pretty inconsequential compared to the massive eye appeal, but we mention them so you’ll notice them. If they were bothersome, we would have passed on this coin; they’re almost certainly the only reason this grades MS64BN rather than 65BN, at minimum! They also didn’t bother CAC, either; this coin shows in the CAC database as having a green bean, but there is not one on the coin. I’m sure that (a) former owner sent it back in for reslabbing or Trueview, and the bean disappeared. If anyone is interested in this coin and lets me know, I’ll send it to CAC and get the bean back. Meanwhile, it’s for sale As Is, and the new owner can have pride of ownership in one of the key coins from this legendary Registry Set—and send it in to CAC themselves if they so wish.
