1856 Flying Eagle Cent, Snow-9, PR61 PCGS CAC, Key Date! The 1856 Flying Eagle cent is high on the list of most collectors of Flying Eagle and Indian cents, along with the (easier) 1877! This is a well-struck example of the Snow-9 die pairing, showing a small diagonal die line from the top of U to the rim, and one the reverse, one of the left-side ribbon ends shows a small extra raised die line. Note how well-struck the eagle is throughout, most importantly on the high points of the eagle’s breast, but as well on the wings throughout. We think this is a borderline PR62 coin and are thinking about “sending it back in.” Medium almond-brown coloration is a plus, and there are no mentionable distractions. The Snow-9 designation is not on the holder, but we guarantee the attribution.
