1891-CC Morgan Dollar MS63 PCGS, VAM-3, Nicely Toned ‘Spitting Eagle’. A Top 100 Variety. Mostly untoned and frosty but with a touch of lovely reds and blues near the rims on each side. This piece would grade higher save for a few marks on Liberty’s neck and jawline; the reverse is relatively unmarked. The VAM-3 “Spitting Eagle” variety is a common die pairing for this somewhat-uncommon Carson City issue. Many examples, however, show pasty, unattractive luster. In this regard, the present coin is superior in both luster and color to most examples so graded.
