1953 Lincoln Cent, Re-Engraved Obverse Proof, FS-402, PR66RD PCGS ‘Rose Pale’. In 1953 the popularity of proof sets was increasing exponentially since their relaunch in 1950. A total of 128,800 sets were sold that year, up more than 45,000 over 1952. When a few more proof cents were needed, the Philadelphia Mint took a used 1953 die and re-engraved the front lapel of President Lincoln’s vest, producing this popular Cherrypickers’ variety. This is the nicest and prettiest example we have had in a very long time!
