San Marino 1976 500 Lire Social Security MS67 PCGS Beautiful Color! 11.0 gm 0.835 silver, 0.2953 oz ASW. 29 mm. KM-59. We have a particular fondness for these half dollar-sized coins of the tiny nation of San Marino, a country entirely landlocked by Italy. Two designs per year were issued back in the 1970s. These were NCLT coins, and some were later melted as unsold of most issues. The pretty surfaces on this piece are largely silver and gold-tinged, with some deeper iridescence near the rims. After the initial mintage of 195,000 coins, nearly 107,000 were melted later at the mint, leaving a net emission of about 88,000 pieces.
