1903-S Liberty Twenty, Better Date, Blazing Luster, Great Surfaces, MS64 PCGS. Like its 1903 P-mint counterpart also listed here, this is a better-date Liberty twenty that is still basically priced like a type coin, yet it keeps the buyer away from the tiresome 1904-dated commercial Unc. coins that are so prevalent in the marketplace. The mintage was a minimal 954,000 coins, making this the lowest-mintage S-mint Liberty twenty of the decade of the 1900s, and about one-sixth that of the 1904-S. This near-Gem offers delightful tinges of orange-gold and greenish-gold on surfaces that are minimally marked for the grade.
The relative scarcity of this issue accounts for its very steep grade-price curve. While PCGS’s price guide pegs the coin in MS64 at $2,800, an MS64+ (if you can find one) is $3,750, and an MS65 (ditto) is $15,000!
