1970-S Small Date Cent Rare PR67 Red and Brown PCGS Wild Toning! Much rarer in proof format than the population data would indicate, as the Small Date cents (BU and proof) were sent in in much greater proportion than the Large Date pieces. In fact, the Small Date proofs constitute only a small fraction of the total proof output. And like most out-of-the-ordinary Lincoln cent issues (PCGS CoinFacts doesn’t even have an entry for a Red and Brown proof of this variety), the price guides are also absurd. We liked it, we bought it and paid a little over 100 bucks for it. You like it, you can still get it for a little over 100 bucks. The Trueview is gratis! PCGS Population: 11 in 67 Red and Brown, 0 finer (12/2017).
PS A lot of folks have trouble distinguishing the Small Date and Large Date varieties. We never have, but then, we were of majority age when these came along. A neat trick is to look not at the date but the E in LIBERTY. It is always weak on the Small Dates and strong on the Large Dates.
